I recall reading the minimum amount of RAM to run windows 7 was 2GB, sure just to run and nothing more as it used up approx 1.0 GB and then when you add other apps the computer starts to run out of memory, nothing important just anti-virus office apps and if you want watch video you have to shutdown other apps. I always recommend double the amount of minimum RAM whatever MS recommends to other people.
