I can probably make it install the roms from the ssWPI as start menu shortcuts. But thrn it wouldn't offer screenshots or proper descriptions or metadata... SsWPI is portable but i will make it so you install it to a ppGames folder. That folder will contain the Emulators too. I will make the roms install to there as well but only the consoles you pick. I have not looked at mess at all. But will take a look atwhat is new in emulation before commiting to anything. I may tryand get ssWpi usable with a usb controller but not sure how I will go with that yet as I never tried before. Then it will ne able to be used as a full launcher without a keyboard if desired. Edit At first glance mess doesn't work with common game consoles. PSX, Amiga, wii, mega drive, game cube, n64 etc etc are not part of mess yet. I may use it for the ones it does include BUT last time I went to use it. It was over 2GB and glitchy. Crashing and random graphics. Plus it was slow compared to the closed source projects. We will have to see. EDIT Made some progress today, I did discover that my EMUlation side of ssWPI would show blank items for folders in the roms directory so I updated it to not add blank titled items or categories, should stop this from causing problems, I did notice as I was working with ppGames that I was getting a blank category sometimes but left it due to all my games having categories by the time I was done, BUT when the Emulation relies on files to popilate it's games/roms I had to fix it this time as it was a blank list of 10 items then the first .cmd file for my SCUMMVM collection. Anyway here is the list of EMU's so far, I do plan on playing with MESS (now MAME) and some other Multi Emulators, but only after I am done building the core and test it works as is, then I will know if the new Emulators are better or not.
I haven't really done anything with MESS. I played around with MAME slightly more, which as you pointed out MESS is now part of. My only interest in both those projects was because of their use of SDL -- as you know an old darling of mine But my main focus has been classic PC games, especially DOSBox and ScummVM (both of which are SDL, in fact); and those are enough to keep me plenty busy as it is. (I'll never attain the rate you can crank them out ) BTW, I like how, in this latest MGP release, you've gone a different route this time and broken everything outside an .iso container. Besides allowing downloaders to cherry pick, it makes it easier to "update" the components such as ssWPI and SetupS.
MAME/MESS is inferior to all emulators that offer different systems (but for the ones only IT does, it is the best (duh)), this is the common view from the internet. I am looking in to Mednafen as well but they are fussy buggers who do NOT want to support compressed roms and I am not including a 700MB GameCube image that I know other emulators can play from a .zip (at 5MB compressed). I have completed the initial build/update and just need to add roms and then work on Joystick support, The method to get DOS and SCUMMVM games is a mod of your method in that old LucasArts pack. I am not sure of my choices still, but I now have something to build on. I will be changing the theme and each game will have a category and meta data added, but something like this. * The duplicated names are because the games are on more than one system.
Sorry to hear that. I'd had such high hopes for that project. It's still mostly the same as how I did it (way back, when? 2009?). But I added some improvements since then. I dusted off a very old utility from Kai Liu, called "hidecon.exe", to conceal the annoying DOSBox/ScummVM console box -- especially running the game in Windowed-mode. It is stored in that emulator package's "Patch.zip". I like your creative use of "%~n0". I think I can take it a bit further and make the launch files somewhat more generic as reusable templates; and thus a little less confusing.

I made use of your dual conf files method as it does make sense to set things once relating to the emulator and treat the 2nd as a autoexe.bat or go.bat instead The whole project feels like a poorly crafted thing so far, I hope to make it feel more refined, I'll get to working on Gamepad support as I feel that is going to make the most difference to how things feel. -EDIT- Ok I have added NON xbox 360 support, so you can use joysticks or game pads to go up/down switch between categories and games with left and right and press ANY button to start the current game.

Does any of the team have a USB Gamepad and interest in this project, I have got it all working on my system, but that doesn't really mean it will work on someone elses (out of box), so if someone does want to test this out, I will package it up with minimal roms and you can test each emulator works and/or that the gamepad works (most revert to keyboard if it's unplugged, but some will require manually re-configuring the keys/buttons again), I will make it Gamepad Default this time as it's a quick job to change it all back to keyboard (most offer a defaults button to revert to keyboard again). I can now begin the rom selection and metadata/screenshots etc packaging. So let me know as soon as any of you have time, we'll get the base tested as ready and then the fun Retroness can begin (including a new ssWPI theme (one that changes depending on the Console you select on the right). -EDIT- Spent the night getting almost ALL the top 20 ROMS for each emulator (except the huge ones that can not be compressed down) and the small ones I got top 50. After the HD's crashed this past May, I was only able to recover 2/3 of this. One of the HD's was seeding all the MGP's. It's a rather large torrent -- and yes, it took all this time to recover just that much. Anyway, does anyone have this complete and can seed the rest of the way for me so I can resume seeding over here? BP perhaps?

I think the problem is on my end. uTorrent had a nasty habit of setting file attributes to "Read-only" which plays havok with the torrent later. And Windows (8) is a PITA to change them back. Lately, I've switched to qBittorrent so we'll see.

I wasn't sure what your data cap was. I had assumed it similar to Wireless data plans over here, in the lower GB's (less than 10) which isn't very much at 4G LTE speeds. In comparison, 1.4 TB is a very liberal. For phone-plans, that is. But it's not unlimited like most Cable or Fiber plans over here.
